Bedridden patient

Definition

Bedridden patient: A patient who cannot get out of bed, or can move only very little, because of illness, old age or disability.

A bedridden patient is a person who cannot get out of bed or whose movement is very limited because of their health. Such patients are usually moved on a stretcher.

Before the transfer, telling the team the patient’s weight, the floor and whether there is a lift, the width of the stairs and any devices used (e.g. oxygen) is important for a safe carrying plan.
