Ambulance

Definition

Ambulance: A vehicle specially equipped to transport sick or injured people safely and allow them to receive care on the way.

An ambulance is a specially equipped vehicle that transports a patient safely from one place to another and, where needed, allows them to receive medical care during the journey. The driver’s cab and the patient compartment are separate; the patient compartment contains a stretcher, securing systems and medical equipment that varies with the type of vehicle.

Types of ambulance

In Türkiye, ambulances are classified according to their purpose. The most common are the emergency ambulance and the patient transport ambulance. The minimum equipment and staff for each type are set by regulation.

Land, air and sea

Most ambulances are road vehicles, but air ambulances (aircraft, helicopters) and sea ambulances are also used for long distances or hard-to-reach areas.
